Synopsis

The seminar will highlight the amendments (Batch 8 to 11) tothe Fire Code 2018, how some of the amendments may impact the design and theunderlying principles and effects on the application of these amendments. Thepresenters will also share the findings from SCDF on plan and RI audit,alerting practitioners on the scenarios and some tricky applications of clausesin fire lift lobby / smoke free lobby design.


Speakers

Ar. Eng Yew Hoon
Principal architect of EzY Architects

Ar. Eng is the principal architect of EzY architects and an Registered Inspector (Arch) . She has been actively involved in SIA Regulation Codes & Standards Committee since 1993. She is currently the Chairperson of SIA-RCS- FSS subcommittee.

She is the member of the Fire Code Review Committee since Year 2000 and contributed to the revision of Fire Codes 2002, 2007, 2013 and the last launched Fire Code 2018. She was also the member of Review Committee for the review of Code of Practice for Fire Precautions in Rapid Transit Systems 2012 and 2017.

She has been appointed by the Commissioner of SCDF as the member of FSSD Audit inquiry Committee since 2014 and appointed by Ministry Of Home Affairs as the Chairperson of the Fire Safety Appeals Advisory Board between 2012 and 2016.

In recognition of her contributions made to SCDF, she was awarded "SCDF Star Customer Award “ in Year 2012" and conferred the Public Service Medal (PBM) in Year 2013.

She had also received “Honourable Mention – Fire Safety Design Excellence Award” in 2017 awarded jointly by NFEC and SCDF in recognition of her outstanding contribution towards achieving high standards in fire safety and compliance to the regulatory system.


Ar. Lim Chee Kean
Executive Architect, DCA Architects

Chee Kean graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Masters of Architecture. He is a Registered Architect and a member of Singapore Institute of Architects.

He is currently serving in SIA Fire Safety & Security Sub-Committee.


Ar. Tracy Tan
Client & Design Leader, Geyer Environments Pte Ltd

Tracy is a RegisteredArchitect and member of the Fire Safety and Security Sub-Committee. She was educated inSingapore in Architecture with an Masters of Architecture with a specializationin Design Technology and Sustainability.

She has work experience in both Singapore and Hong Kong on retail, mixed-use developments, retail banks and corporate workplaces of different scales and complexities. The various typologies her portfolio covers includes hotel, residential andA&As involving iconic buildings like the Hongkong Main Building.

Ar. Chan Yip Seng
Principal Architect - Easton Design International

Chan Yip Seng is the Principal Architect of Easton Design International since 2000 and a Registered Inspector (RI) (Architectural). He obtained his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the National University of Singapore in 1991.

Ar. Chan has been a member of Fire Safety & Security Sub-Committee since 2006. He is also a lecturer for the SCDF RI Course, SIA representative to the FSSD waiver weekly meetings, member of SCDF RI Selection Panel and member of SCDF RI Inquiry Committee.

He is also an Associate Mediator of Singapore Mediation Centre at Supreme Court. He has done many court mediation sessions for State Courts, SMC and the Syariah Court of Singapore as well as an in-house Mediator appointed directly by State Courts.

As a practicing RI (Architectural), he has the privileged to be in a RI team for the prestigious Marina Bay Sands project. With his involvement in various committees in SIA and Inquiry panel in SCDF, Ar. Chan has gained a lot of practical experiences and knowledge in the many challenges faced by QP and RI in complying with Fire Code.

Ar. Chan is also in the Working Committee for SCDF Code of Practice for Fire Precautions in Road Tunnel, SS 597 Code of practice for bulk liquid oxygen storage installations and SS 578 Code of practice for fire extinguisher.


Ar. Gerald Lim
Associate Partner, JON Architects and Associates

Gerald received his Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) from School of Architecture, National University of Singapore in 1995 and registered with the Board of Architects, Singapore in 2000. He has worked on variety of projects including residential, institution, industrial and commercial, covering architecture and interior design. He is also a Competent Person for Periodic Façade Inspection and also a Design for Safety Professional.

Gerald is currently serving in the SIA Fire Safety and Security Sub-Committee.


Ar. Huay Wen Jun
Architect, H.U.A.Y Architects

Wen Jun is an aspiring young architect who believes that collaboration often brings the best results.

He is currently practicing in HUAY Architects, bringing his passion for computational design
and evidence based approach into both practices to create spaces that are meaningful and inspiring


Ar. Magdaline Yeo Hui Hoon
Magdaline is a Principal at Aedas with 18 years of architectural experience across an array of project typologies. She has led award-winning projects in Singapore such as Eclipse and the Restoration and Refurbishment of Raffles Hotel, and is currently the team leader for the Jurong Integrated Transport Hub.

She is currently serving as member of SIA Fire Safety and Security Sub-Committee.


Ar. Tan Swee Chin
Senior Architect – ADDP Architects LLP

Tan Swee Chin, Michelle graduated since 2006 and is a Registered Architect in Singapore. She is also both a BCA Universal Design Accessor and a Certified Facade Inspector.

Michelle’s experience covers project types from A&A, tenancy work, various types of residential developments include HDB, EC & Condominium and mixed used development with the scope start from feasibility study until project completion.

Michelle has enthusiasm and meticulous in her work. She is also passionate about good design and detailing. She is currently serving as SIA Fire Safety & Security Sub-Committee and SIA Development Control Sub-Committee.

Ms. Sumina Surya
Associate Director - SCDA Architects Pte Ltd

Sumina graduated from University of Western Australia and has worked on variety of projects including residential, institution, hospitality and commercial, covering architecture, interior design and landscape.

She is currently serving as member of SIA Fire Safety and Security Sub-Committee.
