Synopsis

Presentation 1 by Ar. Vanessa Baey
The Living Facade:
Façades are no longer just skins of buildings; they are dynamic, living membranes that shape the way we experience spaces. This talk explores how thoughtful façade design enhances both sustainability and community interaction.
Anchorvale Village – A Façade that Breathes Life into the Community
At Anchorvale Village, the façade is more than an aesthetic feature—it is a living fabric that breathes, protects, and connects. Its undulating form optimizes views and natural wind flow, while perforated panels allow air and light to pass through without letting in rain. ETFE membranes provide controlled transparency, ensuring sheltered yet well-lit spaces. The result is a naturally ventilated environment that enhances comfort while maintaining a strong community identity. The open courtyards and layered greenery create a seamless transition between the vibrant neighborhood center and the residential spaces above, balancing activity with tranquility.

3 Draycott Park – Bungalows in the Sky
Inspired by nature, 3 Draycott Park reimagines vertical living with a living facade that mirrors the organic form of tree trunks. Sky terraces on alternating floors provide lush, open spaces in the sky, integrating greenery with urban living. Precast elements streamline construction while incorporating functionality—hidden sprinklers within the terraces eliminate the need for exposed pipes, preserving the clean architectural language. Innovative construction methods further expedite façade assembly, reinforcing the project’s commitment to efficiency and elegance.
Through these two projects, we see how façades can be more than just enclosures—they can shape environments, encourage interaction, and breathe life into communities.

Presentation 2 by Zakiah Supahat
Topic:
Façade Design from Different Scales and Perspectives – City Building/ Streetscape/ Sustainability
Synopsis:
Whilst high-rises form the skyline of a city, creating its high points, a sporting infrastructure on the other hand creates public vistas that punctuate the valleys that promote mass assembly – what is the role of the façade to its towering neighbours? How does this role change as patrons approach the building at the street level and how do we as architects build responsibly? Summarised in a few projects Zakiah will share how Populous approaches design from multiple perspectives.
