Synopsis
Dr. Christian Nocke will explain the theory of micro-perforation and how it has been applied in interior acoustics. Micro-perforation was introduced in 1975, however, because of technological constraints, it wasn’t until the late nineties that manufacturers first introduced optically transparent sound absorbers.
Nowadays micro-perforations are almost invisible; they are as small as a needle tip (0.1mm diameter) and can absorb up to 85% of sound. Dr. Nocke will present and discuss how micro-perforation has opened up new design possibilities for interior design by combining acoustics, lighting, mirror, and even acclimatisation systems.

After studying physics, Dr. Christian Nocke worked as a doctoral fellow for the German National Academic Foundation and as a research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics. In 2000 he founded the consulting firm Akustikbuero Oldenburg.
As a consultant, he advises on the product development of acoustically effective materials, conducts training courses for manufacturers, and lectures internationally. Dr. Nocke is also involved in the national and international standardization of room acoustics (member of the DIN working groups, convenor of ISO WG 36 “room acoustics"). In 2019 he received the Rudolf Martin honorary certificate bi German DIN.
