Synopsis

SIA New Contracts Committee has recently updated a suite of standard form building contracts based on the historical suite of standard form contracts used by SIA for nearly 40 years. Hence, the SIA Building Contracts 2016 course looks to train architects and disseminate the knowledge of the new suite of standard form contracts (in particular Design & Build contract) to the architectural Fraternity to bring the practice of building contact administration up to date and in line with the current industry’s practice.

The course will elevate the standard of building contracts administration using the SIA Building Contracts 2016 (in particular Design & Build contract) as the foundational tools for building contract administration and create a knowledge pool of expertise as reference for the architectural fraternity to bring about improved administration of building contracts.


Registration Criteria:

  • Experience of at least 1 Design and Build project (part of a D&B team or any D&B contract) and administered 1 Building Contract from inception to completion
  • Minimum 5 years’ post-graduation experience in an architectural office

Speakers

Mr. Patrick Chia
Mr. Patrick Chia was one of the team members who helped with the updating of the SIA Contract 2016. He is an Advance Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) qualified trainer. He has practiced within the Singapore and international practice sphere for more than 25 years. Patrick is an arbitrator (Chartered Arbitrator with CIArb), a qualified mediator and has held appointments for adjudications in Singapore.

In 2019 he lead the training of trainers for SIA Building Contract 2016, Design & Build contract ( with employer's design). He is presently the Lead/Co coordinating Trainer for this course supporting other Trainers and Associated Trainers in the conduct training courses for SIA Building Contract 2016 (Design & Build).

An avid motorcyclist who is anxiously waiting for the opening of national borders.


Ar. Siti Habibah Siraj
Ar. Siti Habibah Siraj is a registered Architect since 1990 and has experience in undertaking various projects for both private and public sector clients. She currently holds the position of Associate Director for ID Architects. She has an Advanced Certificate in Training & Assessment (ACTA) and recently completed the training programme for SIA Building Contract 2016. She has been an Adjunct Lecturer in several polytechnics in Singapore teaching in their School of Design and the Environment.


Ar. Steven Siow Kian Shing
Ar. Steven Siow graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) in 1989 and obtained a Master of Science (Project Management) from NUS in 1997. He is a registered Architect since 1992. Steven founded Shing Design Atelier Pte Ltd in 1995 and is currently the Managing Director of the firm.

Steven had the opportunity to participate in the Train the Trainers Programme for SIA Building Contract 2016, Design & Build Contract (with Employer’s Design) and is looking forward to sharing about the contract as a Facilitator for the upcoming course.


Ar. Loo Pei Wen
Ar. Loo Pei Wen graduated from National University of Singapore with a Master in Architecture in 2009 and is a registered Architect since 2013. As the current Director of The Architects Circle Pte Ltd, she has experience in running a variety of projects using different forms of contract like PSSCOC, SIA, HDB hybrid contracts for D&B HIP.

She also has the opportunity to be selected as one of the trainees to train under the Train The Trainers programme for SIA Building Contract 2016, Design & Build Contract (with employer's design). She believes that with the ever-changing nature of the society, contracts need to be adapted to suit the needs of the project and tap on the expertise of different parties better.


Ar. Chan Kok Way
Ar. Chan Kok Way was the team lead in the drafting of the suite of SIA Building Contract 2016. He is an architect, arbitrator, mediator, expert determinator and accredited adjudicator with SMC.

He is one of the team members in the training of trainers for the SIA Building Contract 2016 in 2019. He is currently assisting other Trainers/Associated Trainers in the conduct of this training course.

  • Learners to attain 75% attendance and pass assessment.
  • Learners are required to pre-read course material prior to course commencement.
