Synopsis
In a world facing both climate change and increased security concerns, the frequency and magnitude of natural and human-induced disasters is increasing. Selection of appropriate materials and systems is critical for creating more sustainable and resilient designs. This presentation will explore stainless steel’s potential contributions relative to other metals using comparative data, material properties, current design and assessment approaches and case studies.
Learning Objectives
- Review the differences and overlapping characteristics between sustainable and resilient design with project examples.
- Learn how to assess a project and determine the individual material and combined component system property characteristics that are important for different resilience requirements
- Understand the material property differences between commonly used structural metals and the characteristics that are important for resilient design
- See in-depth examples of several diverse projects where resilience and sustainability were design requirements.
