Synopsis
Energy efficiency in historical buildings involves more than technical solutions; it encompasses building typology, location, and context. As architects, we adopt a holistic approach, particularly for renovation projects, to address climate change and environmental risks. Our goal is a sustainable, tailored response, regardless of the building’s purpose—whether housing, public facilities, or mixed-use spaces.
We explore three key areas:
- The Building and Its Ecosystem: Understanding a building’s history and fostering trust among stakeholders is essential for successful renovation.
- Building Performance: Enhancing comfort and reducing consumption involves more than insulation and HVAC; it includes eco-design and bioclimatic strategies.
- Future of the Building: Architecture is an evolving practice. Learning from past projects through data comparison informs better interventions.
We strive to balance human needs with sustainable practices, illustrated through examples like the conversion of a 19th-century market hall into a sports center and the restoration of an 18th-century water mill into an arts center.
