Synopsis

In harmony with nature, moving towards a sustainable future , is a seminar held by FloorXepert together with Unilin flooring in cooperation with the SIA.

To advance sustainability on a grand scale, we need to make a grand change in mindset. And to reach that, education is the most powerful tool. That is why we would like to present to you a series of topics that are all related to living with nature in harmony. Learn about the one home initiative from Unilin: how are companies adapting to the inevitable shift to sustainable production. Get an insight on how consumers bring nature into their homes by using nature inspired designs. And discover how European architects move towards sustainable design for better living, working and learning.

Speakers

Thomas Van Steenbergen
Sales Director
Unilin

Thomas Van Steenbergen holds a Master in Languages (University of Ghent, 1993) and Economics (Vlerick School, Ghent). He has been active in international sales of flooring for the past 25 years and currently as VP Sales & Marketing International for Unilin Flooring, oversees all sales activities from ME , AFRICA , ASIA & OCEANIA for all categories : venyl, laminate and wood. He takes the strategic lead for international regions towards the Unilin Group Target in respect Climate and Circularity.

Thomas comments: “ Sales are pointless if they are not driven by the respect for our climate and the urge to reduce the need for fresh raw materials to a minimum .”

Elise Bylo
Design Manager
Unilin

Elise Bylo studied Interior Architecture, and she’s the Design Manager Cushion Vinyl & Luxury Vinyl Tiles. When it comes to the interior, she is passionate about how as human beings we use the spaces that surround us, understanding the functional and aesthetical needs, and how we influence the interior and how the interior in return can influence us. Flooring for her is the base of the interior, where you start from to build a space, an interior style, a spatial experience.

Moduleo’s Design Manager, Elise Bylo, joined the company in 2021 after nine years with IKEA. In her day-to-day role she works together with the design development team to spot, define and translate trends into market leading product design.

Elise comments: “It’s estimated that over 56% of the world’s population now live in urban areas therefore it is no surprise to see an increase in the need for nature to be around us. By 2050, estimates predict that this percentage will rise to 66%. “By injecting natural elements into the spaces we live, we can help counteract some of the greys we often see in major cities. Biophilic Design has been found to support cognitive function, physical and psychological health and our role when developing our products is to offer a solution that brings some of the most appealing aspects from the outside world into our homes.”
