Synopsis
The SIA New Contracts Committee has recently updated a suite of standard form building contracts based on the historical suite of standard form contracts used by SIA for nearly 40 years. The SIA Building Contracts 2016 course looks to impart knowledge of the new suite of standard form contracts (in particular, the Design & Build contract) to the architectural community to bring the practice of building contract administration up to date, and in line with the current industry practice.
Participants will get familiar with the SIA Building Contracts 2016 – the foundational tools for building contract administration, and accumulate expertise to improve their administration of building contracts.
Registration Criteria:
- Experience of in 1 Design and Build project preferred (part of a D&B team or any D&B contract) and 1 Building Contract from inception to completion
- Minimum 3 years’ post-graduation experience in an architectural office

Speakers
Ar. Loo Pei Wen
Ar. Loo Pei Wen graduated from National University of Singapore with a Master in Architecture in 2009 and is a registered Architect since 2013. As the current Director of The Architects Circle Pte Ltd, she has experience in running a variety of projects using different forms of contract like PSSCOC, SIA, HDB hybrid contracts for D&B HIP.
She also has the opportunity to be selected as one of the trainees to train under the Train The Trainers programme for SIA Building Contract 2016, Design & Build Contract (with employer's design). She believes that with the ever-changing nature of the society, contracts need to be adapted to suit the needs of the project and tap on the expertise of different parties better.
Ar Jim Tan , Xcube Architects
Founding Principal of XCUBE Architects & XCUBE Solutions Pte Ltd.
Graduated with architectural degrees from NUS and Australia, Jim has always been interested in technology and information management for the building practices.
In 2006, he was part of the project team implementing BIM to the Brunei government where he provides training, customisation, workflow implementation and solutions integration to digitally transformed the Brunei JKR Department. As a practicing Architect & BIM Consultant, Jim has managed many large scale design and constructions projects in Singapore and internationally. Some of his portfolio includes Singapore Changi Airport T4, Warner Bros. World Abu Dahbi and Shanghai Disneyland.
Ar. Joy Chew
Currently the Managing Director of Designshop Pte Ltd, Joy Chew has practiced as an architect starting as an Assistant Architect with Iversen van Sitteren Architects. Later she ventured out on her own as a sole proprietor, then in a partnership and finally as a director in a licenced architectural corporation since 2012.
She studied at the Liverpool University School of Architecture, UK and finished her final two years at the National University of Singapore. After some years of practice, she went on to obtain her M Sc in Construction Law & Dispute Resolution, a combined King’s College London – National University of Singapore programme.
Joy has been a member of the Singapore Institute of Architects since 1987 and is a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators. She is also an Accredited Adjudicator of the Singapore Mediation Centre since 2005.
The projects Joy has worked on whilst in practice are too numerous to list. Joy is known for careful detailing and close supervision of site work with a formidable reputation for managing disputes and delivering projects on time and within budget. Joy’s keen interest in ensuring cash flow in the difficult construction industry has led her to obtain accreditation with the Singapore Mediation Centre and she regularly sits as adjudicator in adjudication applications.
