Synopsis
Everybody has experience with acoustics. Every room, every outdoor area, every vehicle has an acoustic signature and they affect our lives in a multitude of ways. The role of an Acoustic Engineer is to understand the creation, propagation and reception of sound… and where there are specific needs, to mitigate, modify or enhance sound to our benefit. Acoustics is often referred to as a ‘black art’ because its principles are not well understood. The aim of this presentation is to draw back the curtain and educate the audience about the aspects of acoustics we experience every day.
The following topics will be addressed:
- The basics of acoustics
- Room acoustics
- Building acoustics
- Environmental acoustics
- Noise control from mechanical services
- Acoustical modelling
- Project examples
