Synopsis

Precast is more than a construction method – it’s a design opportunity
This seminar, jointly organised by Robin Village Development (RVD) and the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), invites architects to explore how precast can elevate both their projects’ design intent and buildability. From structural systems and ultra-lightweight prefabricated bathroom units to expressive architectural facades, PPVC (Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction) modules, and other integrated building components, RVD’s precast solutions enable efficient, high-quality construction while offering fresh possibilities in form, texture and detailing.
Held at RVD’s Prefab Hub, the session features a behind-the-scenes look at how precast and PPVC elements are conceptualised, fabricated, and finished, showing how design decisions made at the concept stage can be seamlessly translated into factory-built components. Through presentation and a guided factory tour, participants will gain practical insight into how early collaboration with precasters like RVD can inform smarter, more integrated design outcomes.
Join us to discover how precast and volumetric construction can serve not just a structural solution, but as an extension of your architectural language.
Speaker
Tony Tan
General Manager, Robin Village Development (RVD) | President, Singapore Concrete Institute (SCI)
Tony Tan is the General Manager of Robin Village Development (RVD), a leading provider of precast and prefabrication solutions in Singapore. A qualified Civil Engineer with over three decades of experience, Tony has developed deep expertise in building materials, sustainable concrete technologies, and advanced precast systems across Singapore and the region.
He began his career in the manufacturing, distribution, and marketing of ready-mixed concrete, working extensively in Singapore and neighbouring countries. As early as the 2000s, Tony advocated for low-carbon construction practices, promoting the use of ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) as a sustainable alternative to Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC).
Tony is actively involved in shaping industry standards and driving innovation. He served as President of the Ready-Mixed Concrete Association of Singapore and contributed to the development of SS 677:2021 – Design and Execution of Precast Concrete Slabs and Walls for Buildings. At RVD, his current focus includes the technical design and manufacture of Advanced Precast Concrete Systems (APCS), Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GFRC), and Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC). He was also among the early pioneers exploring 3D printing applications for Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) modules.
Within the Singapore Concrete Institute (SCI), Tony has held numerous leadership roles over the years, including Chairman of the Accreditation Committee and was the 1st Vice President until 2024. He currently serves as the Institute’s President and oversees the Precast Accreditation Scheme (PAS). He remains a passionate advocate for the advancement of concrete technologies and their role in delivering sustainable, high-performance construction solutions.
