Synopsis
In the latest Singapore Green Building Masterplan (SGBMP), the government has set an ambitious target of greening 80% of Singapore’s buildings by 2030, reflecting Singapore’s strong commitment to pushing the sustainability agenda in our built environment industry.
To achieve these targets, optimizing the building facade or envelope plays a key role – especially as it accounts for almost 50% of the thermal loads in buildings in tropical regions according to the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS). As such, it is important that we design for high-performance façade systems, which can significantly enhance building energy efficiency and improve carbon footprint of buildings.
In this learning journey, we will be discussing about:
- Building envelope heat gain in the tropics and how this contributes to building energy inefficiency
- Thermal performance of a fenestration system
- Proven façade technologies used in the design of a high-performance fenestration system
- Design and construction of durable high-performance façade
