Synopsis
This webinar is in memoriam of Chin Aik, Victor Chew, founder of the pan-Malayan architecture group practice – Kumpulan Akitek.
Ar. Hoong Bee Lok will share his first-hand experience interviewing C.A.V. Chew for his architecture thesis in 1981, while Mr. Wee Chwee Heng, C.A.V. Chew’s partner at Kumpulan Akitek for half a century, will share about the man and his architecture ideas.
This webinar will be moderated by architecture and urban historian Dr. Ar. Lai Chee Kien.

Speakers
Mr. Wee Chwee Heng, Kumpulan Akitek
A partner with Kumpulan Akitek since 1969, Wee Chwee Heng has worked on many projects in Singapore which include major landmarks like the Surbordinate Courts Complex, hotels like the Ming Court Hotel, resorts, schools and planning university campuses. He has extensive experience in planning and design in Singapore. An urban planner with significant design experience which includes aspects of water edge and water body development design, and nature reserve planning, he has worked on the Changi Development Guide Plan where water bodies were integrated with both the landscape and urban development.
Mr Wee also served as a member of the Singapore Polytechnic’s Board of Governors from 1968 to 1974 and was instrumental in not only the relocation of the campus from Shenton Way to Dover Road but also both the master plan design for SP campus’ third phase expansion and the founding of the SP Graduates’ Guild.
Ar. Hoong Bee Lok, National University Health System
Currently as the Group Chief Infrastructure Officer, National University Health System, Hoong Bee Lok is in-charge of the hospital developments. He was the Senior Director of Campus Development of the Singapore University of Technology and Design in charge of developing the Changi campus. Prior to that, he worked in architectural practices that were responsible for campus development of Nanyang Technological University as well as the National University of Singapore.
