Synopsis
Keynote Speaker Presentation: What should architects look out for when specifying green materials? by Ar. Tang Kok Thye, President Singapore Green Building Council
According to the latest report from the United Nations, it is “now or never” to take action against climate change or risk cascading and irreversible climate effects.
On Singapore’s part, the Green Plan lays out the concerted multi-ministerial efforts to fight climate change, while the Singapore Green Building Masterplan (SGBMP) captures the built environment’s collective commitment to pursue more ambitious sustainability standards for our buildings.
While architects strive to design environmentally-conscious green buildings, construction materials still contribute a large part of a project’s carbon footprint. The use of sustainable building products is critical in reducing the carbon footprint of building projects and development. This presentation will shed light on how architects can opt for greener solutions in bringing their designs to life.
Presentation Topic 1: Public Health, Well-Being And Sustainability In The Washroom by Mr. Patrick Loo, B2B Regional Director, Singapore & ASEAN Dyson Singapore Pte Ltd
Following the outbreak of Coronavirus personal hygiene and habits have become an even wider and more focused topic. The CPD will touch on the History of public health engineering, its legislations and design principles alongside the potential consequences of poor engineering with current hygiene habits and washroom design considerations.
Presentation Topic 2: Sustainable Lighting / Role of Lighting in Sustainability by Mr. Vijay Venkatsubramanian, Team Lead Signify
The presentation will cover sustainable lighting solutions with highest energy efficiency which will meet the energy reduction norms of the latest Green Mark 2021 in Singapore and also cover sustainability lighting strategies concepts like circadian lighting and biophilic lighting which have proven to improve the health and wellbeing of people. This presentation will also cover the latest 3D print technology that contributes to circular economy and renewable energy based solutions like Solar based lighting systems.
Presentation Topic 3: Contributing To A Greener And sustainable Built Environment by Mr. You Min Sang, Engineering Marketer Hilti Singapore
Statistics show that energy use in buildings contribute to approximately 17.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions alone. However, the impact of the built environment extends far beyond just GHG emissions. Other factors such as waste production, water consumption, and health and safety play an important and crucial role in a sustainable built environment. Even though it is still buildings that are certified – not the products within – construction materials play a decisive role in any sustainable building.
Presentation Topic 4: The Spectrum of Glass Less Travelled by Ms. Sara Ang, Director Synergraphic Design Pte Ltd
Glass is a material like no other – highly functional, yet full of potential for art and design. Full of ironies – strong yet fragile, transparent yet reflective, stiff yet fluid – it is a material that permeates our lives, yet remains full of mystery.
What is art glass? What were some key innovations in history that have resulted in its commonplace existence today? And most importantly, what more can be done with it in the realm of space?
Find out about the paints and paintbrushes available to push boundaries, to transform spaces with glass and art, shape light and lives with it, and what new possibilities are available today
